2. Columbia HS FFA
Compete in Coastal
Envirothon.
The Columbia High School FFA competed
in the Coastal Evirothon in New Bern. They
were competing against many teams from
all over the Coastal Plains region of NC.
The Coastal Envirothon is put on by coastal
SWC Districts, and tests the knowledge of
Soils, Forestry, Aquatics, Conservation, etc.
Tyrrell SWCD would like to thank these
students for representing Tyrrell County.
3. Two Attend RCW
This year the Tyrrell SWCD was able to
sponsor 2 students from Tyrrell County to
attend the Resource Conservation
Workshop (RCW). The RCW is a week
long learning experience for students
interested in conservation, taking place at
NC State University. This years attendees
were Margo Lilley and Taylor Holyfield (not
pictured).
4. Annual Alligator Weed
Spraying.
2013 funding for the spraying of Alligator Weed
and other Invasive Aquatic Plants has been
allocated. Tyrrell Commissioners have
decided that the funding will go towards the
spraying and erradication of these plants in the
south-western part of the Scuppernong River.
The spraying technician will be starting at the
county line and working his way towards the
Cross Landing bridge.
